Zanele Muholi is a photographer and visual activist for FEW in South Africa, a black lesbian organisation.

Where I come from there are still hate crimes. Lesbians are raped simply because people don’t like the fact that they are involved with other women.This picture shows it.

I dedicate my visit to this place to a lesbian who died at the age of 27, killed in the presence of her lover and whose perpetrators are still not yet brought to book.

To all lesbians of the south for not giving up and for being courageous and for showing the curr ent and the future generation that there is hope at the end of the day.
