Monument of cooperation

Ellie Lust is spokeswoman at the Amsterdam police force and one of the founders of the gay police network Pink in the Blue.

With Pink in the Blue we want to show that there are a lot of homo- and bisexual people in the police force.

Frido Stein works at the neighbourhood team IJ-tunnel and is vice-president of the homo network.

I didn’t have negative reactions from the police when I came out.

Ellie: Every year we join the commemoration on May 4th at the homomonument. We started with a group of 6 people and now we’re a lot more.

Frido: During the ceremony I also think of the persecution of gays now. Of course as police we hear a lot about gay related incidents.

Ellie: Aggressive conduct towards homosexuals is seldom reported. But please just do report it. In order for us to act accordingly.

Frido: We closely cooperate with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, COC and the discrimination complaints department of the municipality. We exchange information on incidents, in order to act quickly and adequately. 24 hrs a day you can contact us at a special telephone number: 088-1691234.

The more we know the more we can do about it

Ellie: I’m always proud that we have this monument. And that we within the Amsterdam police force we can be open about our sexual inclination, about our identity.
